This wasn’t my mother’s sloppy joe mix but it was quite good. The barbecue sauce added a nice tang that my eldest appreciated. The basics came from
one of my all time favorites.
- 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 stalk celery, diced
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 small can of condensed tomato soup
- 2 Tbs or so of barbecue sauce
- 1 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
Brown the ground beef of turkey. Add the onion and celery and cook until softened. Drain if there’s much fat. Add the ketchup, soup, barbecue sauce, and Worcestershire sauce and bring to a simmer. Simmer over low heat 10-15 minutes. If it gets to thick add some more water. Taste and add salt and pepper as desired. Serve over toasted buns.
