CheapHealthyGood has put together a great list of menu planners, price books and grocery lists. I found it because they linked to my old Excel price book.

Splitting off the Blog

So first, I think, there was the site, www.CheapCooking.com. Then I started the blog on Blogger and eventually moved it over to here. Now, I’m not always just focused on “cheap” cooking so have decided to split the blog. Since I’ve owned the domain name that went with the blog for some time, I’m going to begin blogging on non-cheap-cooking stuff over at ChroniclesOfACuriousCook.com, where I’ll explore various things, not necessarily cheap. I’m going to try to refocus this blog on cheap recipes, because i do still cook them regularly! (Otherwise I couldn’t afford to explore!) And there will be some cross fertilization of course. Sometimes the initial investment in cooking a new cuisine can be high, for example, as I found when exploring Japanese cooking, but once you’ve bought the basics, the dishes are as relatively cheap. Just as when you’re first starting out and you have to stock your kitchen!

Anyway, the site is currently a copy of this one, aside from this post, and is not all up and running as I’m figuring out a new WordPress theme and all that. But I hope you might decide to follow both.

This blog will become more focused on frugal cooking.

And I hope you all visit CheapCooking.com if you’re interested in frugal/cheap cooking. I’ve got a ton of articles and recipes there and an Amazon bookstore that helps support the blog (as you do whenever you buy books or products I recommend here).

One of my all-time favorite cookbooks is Desperation Dinners">Desperation Dinners by Beverly Mills and Alicia Ross. They asked me to write a guest post on their blog, The Kitchen Scoop. Having just thrown my daughter a fun backyard high school graduation party, I wrote up my experiences on that, Summer Entertaining on a Budget. Go check it out. There are some good-sounding recipes on their web site.

Can you eat cheap and healthy?

Interesting article here in the San Francisco Chronicle about how to eat healthy on a budget. More information about using nutrient-rich foods can be found here: Nutrient Rich Foods Coalition. There are some good sounding recipes here.

The US Dept of Agriculture also has a site with a menu planner. Plus you can enter in your age and a few details about your lifestyle and weight and get a recommended number of servings for various aspects of the food pyramid.

Rice Cookers
